For anyone who knows me, you will have heard me talk (a lot) about one very special little person named Holly. Well, it was Holly’s 5th birthday this month and a bunch of us got together to eat cake, play musical statues and celebrate.
Hilarious, serious, gentle, determined and exceptionally thoughtful of others, I can’t say enough wonderful stuff about this kid, she’s something special.
I tried to capture this with my camera.
Love you to bits Holly. Happy Birthday!
I was looking through some of my recent shoots and realized that I haven’t yet introduced baby Allanah (La La as we call her). A little over a year ago, my best friend Suse and husband Gav had their first baby, and she’s a little cracker. The arrival of Allanah marked the end of a difficult time for her parents, as they finally became parents. As a best friend, there was nothing more wonderful to witness. It’s easy to see Allanah is surrounded by love, and occasionally my camera.
Here are some photographs I have taken of Allanah in her first year, featuring her first birthday party and of course, some flashbacks (this is starting to become a habit).
Allanah @ 6 months
Allanah @ 11 monthsThe BIG day is here and Allanah wonders what all the fuss is about
And now for some flashbacks….. a teeeeeny tiny baby Lala with her proud (& tired) Mum & Dad
Three of my faves in one shot. Remember these guys? It’s Super Holly & Ben, you’ll see plenty of them on my blog. They just adore Lala and I love these shots of them trying to console her. Such sweetness.
Last weekend was yet another cold Melbourne winter weekend. So, I rounded up Andrew, Megsy, Mark, Holly, Ben & puppy dog Jess and we hit the coast. As it turns out, an impromptu visit to the beach was just was a wonderful idea (although there was no escaping that cold). Our mini-break mostly consisted of lounging by the fire, wearing our PJ’s way pasts the bounds of actually sleeping and of course playing games on our iPhones. For me as a photographer the iPhones were wonderful at keeping the kids still! (and I made the most of it).
Here are a few of my highlight shots. The shots of the kids sleeping just melt me. Bless. I had to share the slightly less cute shot of Mark & Jess snoring on the couch, such a classic.
Watching Jess (the dog) get to play in the mud puddle was a blast. She was in doggy heaven I am sure of that. 10 points to Mark for getting us all down to the pier to go fishing. 0 points to all of us who caught zilch.
Being a photographer, it’s often hard to know when to put the camera down when I spend time with friends & family. We had planned to do a more formal portrait session at sunset, but we were too busy doing other holiday stuff. So, this more natural series is what we have as a record of our time. I love that.
In my life there is an abundance of children around me. Most (if not all) of my friends & family have one, two or three bambinos already. I have learnt a lot from all these marvelous little people but more than anything, they make me realise just how fast time flies. Yikes!
Here we have a special bunch: Carly (my cousin), Darren, Miss Darcy (my darling God Daughter) and little guy Hamish.
Cousin Carly and I are the same age and growing up we were like two peas in a pod. Now, as adults in our busy lives, catching up is less regular. So it’s was lovely to spend some time photographing Carly and her family in the beautiful Melbourne sunshine last week.
Whilst editing these shots I decided to head back through my archives and remind myself of how little Darcy & Hamish used to be. I have included some flashback shots I have taken over the years of both Darcy and Hamish, look how much they’ve grown! Check out that unbelievable cheeky face from Darcy – love it. Ok world, you can slow down just a little now.
The power of the photograph never ceases to amaze me.
Flash back time – here we come!
This is Steph, Jez, James & Tommy and boy oh boy, they are one VERY spunky bunch indeed! I first met Steph last year when she was pregnant with the cutie batootie Tommy. Steph and Jez shine with love and respect for each other, their boys and all that they do. It’s always ace to spend time with them, especially on a sunny Melbourne morning with my new 50mm 1.2L lens.
We got together last week for our 3rd shoot and as you will see there was plenty of running around, getting flung in the air and some cuddles. There was some serious cheeky face action from James, he’s such a little firecracker. These guys have more energy that a packet of Pop Tarts!
Then, Tommy fell asleep and it was time to call it a wrap. I have a favourite shot, can you guess it? Let me know yours.
*WARNING* some serious blue eyes coming at ya.
Tommy in the tummy (shoot #1)
Tommy arrives – bless (shoot #2)
I had to show you this little darling and stunning – just gave birth but my house is spotless – Steph.
